Tankless Water Heater Maintenance

Tankless water heaters need to be maintained. The number one preventative maintenance task is called Descaling. This is a process of running a solution through the heat exchanger to remove deposits that collect with normal use. Modern high efficient tankless units now use stainless steel for their heat exchangers, which helps prevent the build up of deposits. Here in the Pacific Northwest, our water quality is generally excellent. If you are on city water, units with a stainless steel heat exchanger should be descaled about every 4 years. Copper heat exchanger models should be descaled every other year. Those living in rural areas who are on a private wells will typically need to descale more frequently.

We have videos that will help homeowners learn how to perform the descaling service themselves if they want to take charge of their preventative maintenance. We of course offer the service and add a complete tankless checkup when we do it for you. We are happy to get you setup to do your own service if you are interested in that.
